First session / day finished.

The first day of my project is over and my initial feelings about it are positive. I am not out to level as fast as I can or just grind on XX mobs. Amazing how much you remember about a game when you played it for 5ish years. One thing I failed to mention is I am playing on Harvestgain.

Level 1 - 5:
This was, of course, some of the easier leveling there is. I pressed the neat new ENTER button and came out of portal space in the training all. I handed my gem over and the guy told me if I wanted to skip the tutorial all I had to do was talk to some dude in the next room. So I talked to, umm.. his name started with a J, the dude and sure enough he gave me all the experience from levels 1-5 but also threw in the gear you get. I looked around when I got out of the portal and remembered I had picked Holtburg as my starting town.

I looked around and saw a bunch of portal and buff bots, I left them alone. I wandered around Holtburg just getting acclimated with the controls again. (It is weird to me that 'S' isn't walk backwards. Yes I am aware I can change it.) I walked up to a chest and a guy standing next to it. He tells me if I give him some token he will give me a key to the chest. Well it just so happens I had a token and he gave me a key. I grabbed the armor that was in the chest and ran off to find my first fight. Found a cute little drudge and pummeled his body in with my Academy Cestus. I had forgot how much fun it is to make drudges scream.

Went back to Holtburg and remembered that there were guys in the bar that might have quests for me or hints. So I talked to Worcer and he gave me a list of items he wanted me to get out of Holtburg Redoubt. So I went there and got his items and he gave me 21,00 XP I believe. That leveled me from 5 to 7 I think.

Level 7:
I then talked to Worcer's friend Alfrin who asked me to get some of his supplies back from the Drudge Hideout. I went there and collected what I thought were all the items but I think I might have missed one. He gave me a bunch of XP and that leveled me to 8.

Level 8-10:
It started getting late and I was a bit tired after watching a great episode of BSG so the deails are fuzzy. I know that I was running around the Holt area and saw a house that I kind of rememberd but not everything. I went into the house and down stairs then it came back to me. Hollow Minions hit VERY hard. So there I was at the life stone typing into /gen chat.

"I had forgotten how hard hollows hit"

I then went to Rithwic because that is where I was n00b when I first started the game back in '99. I wondered around looking at the sights and remembering where stuff was at. Then I went the to bronze statue in the town and remembered about the door on them and went inside. By this time I had a nice Acid Nekode I was using with BD3 on it!! (I know UBER!). I killed big statues collecting lead peas and trying to get upgrades to my gear. I hit level 9 on those and I decided I was going to go find another quest. Then I headed off to the Rithwic outposts to get my starter quests. I did those and I was then level 10.

Level 10-12:
It was pretty late at this point so I am not sure about everything. I think I went to Shoushi and I did the starting quests there and that got me to level 11 or very close to it. I think I did another quest other then the starting quest as well. I was looking over my inventory, UST'ing and sorting and I notices that I had 7 Lucky Gold Letters. Sweet, if I remembered right I could get stamps from the different cities and stamp the letters, then I could turn those in to different cities for some new gear. So I went to the bars of the different cities and got the directions to different dungeons in the area. Sure enough there was a city stamp in most of the dungeons I tried. Durring all the running around I would stop and just kill a lot of mobs and I collected 5 Red Wasp Wings, 3 Blue Wasp Wings and 8 Drudge Charms. I turned all those items in and it leveled me up to 12 and then some.

By the time I logged off I had some neat new gear, sold 20 lead peas for a bunch of money, sold my xtra wands. So here are my stats and skills as they stand at level 12.

Character created and I am off!

Ok my client is all patched and I have entered Dereth again for the first time in 4 years. Like to child excited for Christmas but replace excitement with boredom I logged in and decided to skip the tutorial dungeon and I forgot to take screen shots of me at level 1. So here are my stats and skill at level 5 without spending any XP.

As you can see I went with a more balanced starting template. Doing the tutorial seemed like a waste of time since as soon as I logged on I remembered most everything I needed to know. I took time out of my first play session to update this so I will do my first in-game update after I finish for the day.

Deciding on a character to play.

This is a tough choice for me. When I left AC back in early 2004 I had 5-6 level 200+ characters (before ToD). I had all the characters I would have wanted. Sword, War/Melee, Archers and tinker mules. It is harder to decide now. Extreme characters from back in the (i.e. people who start with 10's in their stats) are harder to level at the start but end up better later in life. Characters that have their stats more rounded are a bit easier to level but won't be as 'uber' as they could be.

For this project I think I am going to pick a Sho UA. I always liked UA and of course Sho have it built in. My client is still patching so I will post the build I decide to go with when I can get to the creation process.

As it stands I will probably do something like:

Spec:
UA
MeleeD
Arcane Lore

I don't remember how much that stuff costs so I don't know what I will be training.

Intro to the AC Project.

Years ago I was an Asheron's Call Junkie. I quit once and came back and did something similar to what I am going to do now. Many people were interested in it and since I have some spare time on my hands and I am really bored I thought I would do it again.

My experiment is to start a new account on Asheron's Call and play without any help. No buff bots, no alliance, no patron. Just me and whatever I find. My goal is to see how viable the game is to play and level to someone who is new.

Each time I play I will note the amount of time I play, general things that I did (i.e. Quests, crafting, etc...) I will post screen shots of my character after each day and note any level or misc achievements I have reached.

Hopefully someone finds it interesting.
